Solana Foundation releases open-source atomic DvP settlement for tokenized securities
TL;DR: Solana DvP provides an open-source framework for atomic securities settlement on-chain, with JPMorgan offering feedback on institutional requirements.
Solana’s delivery-versus-payment programme combines asset delivery and cash payment into a single atomic blockchain transaction. This design removes the gap between movements and reduces counterparty exposure during settlement.
Release and Features
The Solana Foundation released the programme on October 6 under the MIT licence. The tool includes isolated escrow, configurable time limits and support for SPL Token and Token-2022 assets. It targets a reusable standard for banks and institutions so teams do not need to develop bespoke settlement contracts for each project.
Institutional Input and Assurances
JPMorgan provided input on settlement practices. The Foundation’s disclaimer states that JPMorgan does not operate, certify or guarantee the software. The programme has undergone external security reviews. Production-scale adoption and planned privacy features require future implementation.
Implications for Tokenised Securities
The solution addresses settlement lag in tokenised securities that increases capital usage and counterparty risk. Adoption will depend on legal finality, custody and broker integrations and processes for error resolution outside the smart contract. Atomic settlement code improves speed and determinism but does not replace the broader settlement infrastructure.
