EigenLayer Launches Rewards v2 Upgrade on Mainnet
EigenLayer launched its Rewards v2 upgrade on Mainnet on January 21. This update enhances reward distribution with new features aimed at flexibility and efficiency.
- AVSs can assign rewards based on operator performance or specific criteria.
- Operators can set their own compensation rates for each AVS, promoting participation.
- Batch rewards claiming allows for combining multiple claims into one transaction, reducing gas costs.
Governance and Execution
This upgrade is the first under the EigenLayer Improvement Proposal (ELIP) and utilizes the EigenLayer Governance process (EigenGov). It is also the first Mainnet upgrade executed by the Protocol Council.
Existing AVS and operator contracts remain unaffected, but users of the Eigen Sidecar tool must upgrade to version 2.0.0 for the latest features. The changes support customizable reward mechanisms aligned with operator needs.
The launch signifies progress toward decentralization and community involvement in EigenLayer's development. The team previously released Sidecar v2.0.0 to support the Rewards v2 upgrade, allowing real-time access to protocol rewards data.
