Trump to Announce U.S. Crypto Strategic Reserve at White House Summit
President Donald Trump will announce a new crypto policy, including a proposed crypto strategic reserve, at the White House crypto summit on Friday. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick indicated that:
- Bitcoin (BTC) will receive special status.
- Other cryptocurrencies will be positively regarded, though market reactions suggest limited expectations for altcoins.
Current prices reflect this sentiment:
- BTC has risen to $91,000, 4.5% below its recent high of over $95,000.
- XRP is at $2.57, 17% lower than its peak of $3.02.
- Cardano's ADA and Solana's SOL are down 27% and 20%, respectively, from their Sunday highs.
This price lag indicates skepticism about the significant inclusion of altcoins in the reserve. Observers suggest Trump's mention of these tokens may have been a strategy to bolster BTC's position. Additionally, the implementation of a BTC-only reserve may take time due to conflicting interests with the IMF regarding BTC accumulation.
Jeff Park from Bitwise Asset Management cautioned the crypto community to manage expectations regarding the strategic reserve's impact.
