Bitcoin Declared ‘Generational Opportunity’ Amid Rising Global Economic Turmoil
Jeff Park, Head of Alpha Strategies at Bitwise, stated that Bitcoin (BTC) represents a “generational opportunity” amid increasing global economic instability. Key factors include:
- Proposed trade tariffs by US President Donald Trump
- Concerns over the US debt ceiling
- Growing deglobalization sentiment
The economic landscape is further complicated by the upcoming expiration of the US Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), leading to potential tax policy shifts.
Gold prices have risen significantly, currently trading at $2,900 per ounce, compared to $2,585 in December 2024. Bitcoin has shown resilience, maintaining a price range between $90,000 and $100,000, with its implied volatility (IV) percentile at its lowest level of the year.

Despite market turbulence, Bitcoin remains largely unaffected by external events, such as the tech market sell-off linked to the Chinese AI model DeepSeek.
Bitcoin Dominance and Altcoin Market Struggles
Bitcoin's dominance (BTC.D) has increased to 60.65%, marking a rebound from around 54% in December 2024, impacting the altcoin market negatively due to low liquidity and reduced retail interest.

Some analysts anticipate a potential Ethereum-led altseason later in 2025, citing similarities between ETH’s current price action and BTC’s trajectory during its third market cycle. At press time, BTC trades at $95,362, down 0.4% in the past 24 hours.
