Coinbase premium turns positive as US institutions buy Bitcoin again
Coinbase premium turns positive as US institutions return to Bitcoin
US-based institutions are back buying Bitcoin. The volume‑weighted Hourly Coinbase Premium flipped positive and has stayed mostly above zero since early April.
On-chain analyst Darkfost flagged the shift on April 25, pointing to steady institutional demand and scope for further upside in his X post.

What the metric shows. It tracks the hourly price gap between Coinbase and Binance, weighted by trade size, to reduce noise. A positive reading means Coinbase prices run higher than Binance, a pattern often tied to stronger US institutional flow per prior market analyses.
The turn matters. The premium had spent a prolonged period below zero before rising into positive territory in April per Darkfost.
Stability angle. Institutional-led rallies historically hold better than retail-driven ones, Darkfost noted, framing this as support for the ongoing uptrend in the same thread.
Watch the signal. The index hasn’t formed a clear uptrend yet. Darkfost said he is watching the premium’s follow‑through rather than price alone per his update.
