Justin Sun Prize and MathDB start 50-problem pilot with $1 million awards
Geneva, Switzerland — October 26, 2026 — The Office of Justin Sun announced a pilot program for the Justin Sun Prize in collaboration with MathDB, a mathematical research platform led by Caltech Professor Tony Yue Yu.
The Justin Sun Prize aims to function as a decentralized, formalized and machine-driven award framework for scientific research in the AI era. Problem-level awards can reach $1 million, subject to eligibility and program rules.
Program structure and roles
MathDB will accept solution submissions, verify Lean formalizations and review expository materials. The Justin Sun Prize will assess eligibility, attribution, priority and applicable award terms. The pilot covers 50 problems across four award levels, with top-tier problems including P versus NP, the Riemann Hypothesis, Yang–Mills Existence and Mass Gap, the Hodge Conjecture, Global Langlands functoriality and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture. Full problem lists and terms will be available via MathDB and the Justin Sun Prize.
Reward allocation: 50% for the mathematical solution, 30% for Lean formalization, 20% for qualifying exposition.
All awards require eligibility verification, compliance with AML and sanctions laws, and adherence to official rules at https://www.hejustinsun.com/prize.
Rationale and statements
Justin Sun stated that AI accelerates mathematical exploration but does not replace rigor. The collaboration integrates human insight with machine-verifiable proof in one process to support rigorous discovery. Tony Yue Yu emphasized that solving fundamental problems can create tools and connections that influence multiple disciplines, and that decentralized, verifiable approaches can accelerate scientific progress.
About MathDB
MathDB is a community database of mathematical definitions, theorems, conjectures and open problems. It integrates Lean formalization and automated proof verification with explanations and research materials. Professor Tony Yue Yu and his team will lead the scientific aspects of the pilot. Details on problems, submission requirements and review procedures will be available at https://mathdb.com/ and https://www.hejustinsun.com/prize.
