MEXC intercepts $38.66M risk funds, boosts insurance fund to $792M
Mutsamudu, Comoros, September 16, 2026 – MEXC published its July–August 2026 security report: 215 reports of risk-related funds were intercepted, covering approximately 38.66 million USDT. The Futures Insurance Fund balance rose to 792 million USDT. Reserve ratios for BTC, ETH, USDT, and USDC remained above 100%.
Across the industry in July–August 2026: 184 security incidents with approximately $535 million in reported losses. Phishing and fraud, plus endpoint and supply-chain incidents, accounted for approximately 48%. Attackers increasingly used AI to generate phishing content and malware. Rapid interception of risk-related funds and cross-platform investigations reduce user losses.
Interception of Risk-Related Funds
MEXC handled 215 reports of externally stolen or fraud-related funds flowing into the platform. All were intercepted, covering 38,655,490 USDT. Forty-two cases involved judicial freezes. Versus the previous period: intercepted cases increased by approximately 2,971%, intercepted value increased by approximately 12,646%.
MEXC shared suspicious addresses with industry participants, traced fund flows, and supported verification and freezing under joint investigations and law-enforcement cooperation.
Account Risk Controls and Asset Returns
20,752 risk-related accounts were identified and restricted, up 118.03%. MEXC identified 5,288 risk groups, up 20.35%, concentrated in the CIS (1,803), Nigeria (1,099), and Indonesia (976).
Asset recovery: 818 applications for misdirected assets were processed manually, returning the equivalent of 602,225 USDT, up 75.31%.
Futures Insurance Fund
As of September 1, 2026: Futures Insurance Fund balance reached 791,696,422 USDT, up 5.44%. The fund covers negative balances during liquidation, buffers extreme conditions, and reduces ADL. - Bitcoin: approximately 288% reserve ratio, with 12,312.75 BTC in wallets versus 4,282.20 BTC in user assets;
- Ethereum: approximately 113% reserve ratio, with 66,227.79 ETH in wallets;
- USDT: approximately 115% reserve ratio, with approximately 1.940 billion USDT in wallets;
- USDC: approximately 114% reserve ratio, with approximately 194.85 million USDC in wallets.

Guardian Fund
MEXC Guardian Fund uses dual reserves in USDT and BTC. USDT supplies immediate liquidity. BTC serves as a long-term reserve. MEXC plans to expand the fund from $100 million to $500 million.
