US investors drive Bitcoin to $73K as Coinbase premium flips positive
Coinbase premium flips positive as US demand lifts BTC above $73k, analyst says
Bitcoin rallied into the weekend on weaker US inflation. An analyst links the move to a positive turn in the Coinbase Premium Index.
US CPI surprise set the stage. NewsBTC reported BTC spiked after softer inflation data.
The Coinbase Premium Index measures the price gap between BTC on Coinbase (USD) and Binance (USDT). A positive premium signals stronger US buy pressure. A negative one shows the opposite. Burak Kesmeci highlighted this as a key driver over the past two years.
“During periods when the index stayed positive, Bitcoin rose from 41K to 126K, while in periods when it turned negative, it declined from 126K down to the 60K range.”

Negative pressure on the index eased in recent days. It flipped positive, and BTC pushed above $73,000. Kesmeci’s chart shows the turn.
- Premium-Price link. Positive US premium aligned with BTC uptrends. Negative premium aligned with drawdowns.
- Hourly data “green”. The short-term premium stayed positive through the move.
- US whales led the leg. Kesmeci attributes the 66k to 73k run to stronger US demand.
