US Senators propose Mined in America certification and Strategic Bitcoin Reserve
Cassidy and Lummis file the “Mined in America Act.” The bill moves Bitcoin mining hardware production to the U.S. and ties it to a national reserve.
The sponsors published the draft and goals in a press release. See the bill overview here.
The plan answers a hardware gap. About 97% of rigs come from Chinese manufacturers, creating port bottlenecks and security concerns, per coverage of the proposal here.
It introduces a “Mined in America” certification for data centers. Facilities must avoid equipment from “foreign adversaries” to qualify source.
The act pushes chip and rig production onshore. It tasks NIST with helping U.S. firms build more efficient chips source.
It links mining to reserves policy. The bill backs a federal Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and prefers coins sourced from “Mined in America” facilities source.
U.S. miners already lead in operations. The U.S. accounts for roughly 38% of global hashrate source. But it trails in manufacturing.
“Digital asset mining is a big part of our economy. We should be doing it here in America.” U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy.
