Bitcoin reclaims $73K; futures traders boost shorts, aggressive buying stays weak
Bitcoin retook $73,000 after a ~10% weekly gain. Futures leverage rose, but aggressive buying lagged.
Market analyst Amr Taha notes rising leverage across major exchanges alongside a pickup in bearish positioning. CryptoQuant data shows open interest jumped on April 9 while net taker flow stayed muted.
- Binance OI +$350M on Apr 9, highest since Mar 20
- Bybit OI +$299M
- OKX OI +$200M
Yet Binance’s 24h cumulative net taker volume did not match the OI surge, signaling little aggressive buying relative to new positions source. Taha adds that only a small part of the April 9 OI increase came from buyers, implying more shorts or passive bids. The rally’s durability leans on spot demand, not leverage.
Bitcoin trades at $72,837, +0.34% 24h. Daily volume +3.85%. Price sits 42.08% below the $126,200 cycle high from October 2025.
