CSD BR records BTG Pactual fund ownership on XRP Ledger
Brazilian central securities depository CSD BR and Ripple will mirror selected BTG Pactual investment-fund shares on the XRP Ledger as an additional recording and audit layer. CSD BR, which reports more than BRL 22 trillion in registered assets, remains the official source of record for registration, deposit, and settlement. The project is a live test: tokenized ownership on a public blockchain to enhance verification in regulated markets without changing legal duties or processes.

XRP Ledger as a complementary audit layer
The first phase moves tokenization into live operation with BTG Pactual fund shares deposited at CSD BR. The goal: measure transparency, traceability, automation, and efficiency under real operating conditions. The companies describe this as the first use of a public blockchain by a central securities depository to mirror ownership records. XRPL provides a queryable, auditable mirror while CSD BR’s systems retain legal authority. The model fits the current regulatory framework and does not require new approvals.
Broader XRPL real‑world asset activity provides context, but this initiative is limited to record mirroring.
Mechanics of CSD BR’s XRPL mirroring
Selected fund shares will be represented as tokens under XRPL’s Multi‑Purpose Token standard. Authorized participants can query mirrored data and check consistency with CSD BR’s official records in near real time. Access is restricted to Brazilian corporate and banking clients under KYC and AML. Ripple’s custody and XRPL’s native features support the onchain environment, while CSD BR controls issuance, administration, and participant authorization.
CSD BR retains powers to freeze specific assets or reverse transactions through clawback when required by regulatory or judicial orders. The operator states its infrastructure can process millions of transactions within minutes. The announcement provides no pilot size, valuation, share count, or token identifiers.
Regulated infrastructure and next phases

CSD BR is authorized by the Central Bank of Brazil to provide registration, depository, and settlement services and by the CVM to provide registration and depository services. The partnership introduces XRPL into live, regulated workflows without changing processes for investors, issuers, or participants. CSD BR’s Head of Products and Clients, Daniel Polano Spreafico, said they began with mirroring to evaluate performance under real operating conditions while keeping existing processes intact.
After validating mirroring, the companies may consider native onchain issuance and trading among authorized participants. Potential assets include Brazilian Real Estate Receivables Certificates and Agribusiness Receivables Certificates. Future phases are expected to address financial‑market privacy via advanced confidentiality mechanisms. No timeline was provided, and there is no plan for XRPL records to become legally authoritative at this stage. Expansion beyond the initial scope is possible but unconfirmed.
