XRPL validators back Batch upgrade targeting September 29 activation

min

Ripple’s XRP Ledger Batch amendment targets activation on September 29, 2026, at 14:06 UTC. As of September 20, 30 of 35 validators support the upgrade. Activation requires at least 28 of 35 validators, or 80%, to maintain support for 14 consecutive days. Validators can change votes during this window, so the date remains conditional, consistent with XRPL amendment activation rules.

What Batch Does

Batch introduces native atomic settlement on XRPL: two to eight standard transactions execute under a single controlling transaction. Modes: all-or-nothing, one-at-a-time success, continue-until-failure, and independent processing. The all-or-nothing mode enables delivery-versus-payment by settling both asset transfer and payment simultaneously and canceling the batch if any leg fails.

Fee treatment: service providers can include their fees within the same batch so the fee and trade finalize together. Ripple states this improves transparency for tokenized-asset transactions. RippleX engineering lead Ayo Akinyele said asset managers and commercial projects are testing Batch ahead of launch. No firms or deployment timelines have been disclosed.

Why It Was Rebuilt

Earlier Batch activation was withdrawn after auditors found a flaw that could enable unauthorized transactions. RippleX halted the amendment before mainnet activation. The revised version was released on September 14 and passed three external reviews. This is the first time since the pullback that Batch has reached the final week of validator voting.

Akinyele indicated partners will be named after Batch goes live. RippleX has confirmed preparation activity but not signed deployments or committed volume. The near-term impact depends on governance and validator support rather than demonstrated institutional usage.

Implications for XRP

If the 28-vote threshold holds through September 29, XRPL gains delivery-versus-payment capability for tokenized assets, aligning with Ripple’s work on tokenized fund infrastructure. XRP rose 22.2% for the week to $1.58 as of September 22, while Bitcoin gained 13.9% that week. Available reporting does not link XRP’s move directly to Batch progress.

Key variable: whether asset managers execute real trades on XRPL using Batch. Without named participants and confirmed volume, Batch upgrades settlement functionality without establishing new XRP demand.
